STUBBORN resistance from Chelmarsh denied Corvedale victory in Division Three of the Shropshire County League.

The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first at Millichope Park and Sher Zahid took full advantage.

Coming in at four, Zahid top scored with 96 as Corvedale piled up 245 before being bowled out at the start of the 38th over.

There were contributions also from Johnny Hill who made 43 while opener Harry Aldridge gave the innings a decent start with 33. Glyn Tipton also added 31 down the order.Will Fensome was the main wicket-taker for Chelmarsh but his three late wickets cost him 30 in just over three overs as the home side looked to push the score along.

Zahid was then charged with doing some damage with the ball and promptly obliged removing Chelmarsh openers Charles Thornton (15) and Rupert Grainger (5).

But Elliot Ward made 44 and Connor Glendinning 29 as the visitors rallied.

Tipton finally got rid of Ward and Russell Wilcox removed Glendinning but there was more resistance to come with skipper Andy Unitt batting through to the close with 37 and Fensome, with 18, batting out valuable time.

At the end of the 42nd over Chelmarsh closed on 174-6 leaving Corvedale to claim a winning draw and 16 points.

Tom Atkins took 4-9 as Corvedale 2nd were shot out for 58 on the way to 122-run defeat against Shrewsbury 4th.

None of the Corvedale line-up managed to reach double figures leaving extras the top score with 17.

Sam Davies had the highest score of the match with 29, one of seven Shrews who got a start but didn’t go on.
