LUDLOW & South Shropshire produced an excellent all-round display to beat Shelton.

Thirteen games into the season it leaves them fourth in the Shropshire County Premier Division.

It was a day for runs as Ludlow clocked up 279-5 at the Burway.

After Rich Taylor went with the score on 33 it was left to Sam Edwards to move the score along which he did despite losing skipper Will Sparrow for 18. Edwards, was third out for 72 with the score having reached 195.

With that platform to build on Jack Griffiths continued undeterred until he eventually fell for 90 to Joe Timmis (2-54).

Luke Miles then carried on from where Griffiths left off with 34, receiving support from Sam Alford (15) and the unbeaten Glen Whittaker (19).

It was going to take an innings of note from someone to get anywhere near that, but that is exactly what happened as Ben Matthews hit 108.

But there was little else in the way of back-up for Matthews with the top three of Zake Mellor, Sam Nicholls and Harry Jones managing just 14 between them.

Matthews finally got some assistance down the order from Ben Roberts (31) but when he was seventh out with the score on 156 it was only ever likely to finish one way, and that’s how it turned out. Miles nipped in to complete figures of 3-20 while the new ball pairing of Matthew Kennedy (2-31) and Bryan Leighton (2-30) picked up useful wickets as Shelton were restricted to 195 all out.

It was a good day also for Ludlow 2nd as they raced to victory at Beacon CC.

Josh Williams led the way with the bat making 58 and he was well supported by the opening pair of Matthew Hawes (30) and Sam Roberts (25). Mitchell Lloyd (3-41) kept some form of control but a late flurry from John Brazier (not out 26) and Simon Miles (not out 17) saw the away side to 195-6.

It was then over to the bowlers and Courtney Cooper (4-12) and Tom Miller (2-13) at one stage had the home side 9-5. It didn’t get any better from there as Tom Gloster (2-8) and Joe Webb (2-13) finished things off, Beacon all out for 48 after just 26 overs of resistance in which Marcus Clayton made 24.

Ludlow 3rd made it a hat-trick of wins on the day as they thrashed Calverhall by nine wickets.

Joe Williams was the pick of the bowlers with 4-32 as the away side were dismissed for 112. Despite losing Scott Kemsley run out for an unlucky 13 there were no further alarms with Will Gough leading the way with 55 while Craig Massey finished undefeated on 32.
