AN all-round team performance helped Ludlow to a 53-run Shropshire County League Premier Division win at Madeley on Saturday.

The visitors were asked to bat first and posted 220-7, Keanu Cooper’s 62 giving his side early impetus.

A number of players then got to double figures without going on to post significant scores but nonetheless 33 from Jack Griffths, 22 for Sam Edwards and 41 for Luke Edwards coming in at number seven bolstered the total. Chris Hodson and Jeremy Marshall took three wickets each for the hosts.

Madeley’s reply started badly with Matthew Kennedy removing Hodson for a duck but fellow opener Andrew Laycock’s brisk 51 was something to build on.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals with Miles picking up two as did Louis Watkins, notably the scalp of Laycock who was out with the score at 69.

There was a late rally to contend with though as Simon Woodcock (36 not out) and Martin Boyle (29) but Griffiths chipped in with a couple of wickets as well to leave the home side 167-9 at the close.

There was no play between Ludlow 2nd and Madeley 2nd due to rain.

Ludlow 3rd suffered a 20-run defeat at Harpers.

Biant Singh made 53 for Harpers and Madhava Sama 32 as they made 178, Chris Ammonds taking three wickets including opener and skipper Sultan Choudry for 28.

In reply, Ludlow’s top four all got to double figures but Craig Massey’s 28 was their best score of the innings. Vital run-outs of Will Gough (23) and Ed Riley (15) did little to help their cause, and in the end they were dismissed for 158.
