CRAIG MORRIS hopes his victory over Lithuanian Arvydas Trizno on Saturday will be enough to earn him a shot at the vacant Midlands Area Welterweight title.

The Ludlow professional scored a comfortable points win in the six-round contest on the Black Country Boxing’s Summer Scorcher show at Walsall Town Hall in front of a vocal and loyal band of followers.

The 24-year-old said both he and his trainer and manager felt it was his best ‘boxing’ performance to date.

Pre-fight Morris had predicted that Trizno would be a hard nut to crack and he fully lived up to that billing.

“He was a hard bloke with more than 80 fights under his belt and has travelled all over Europe fighting some good lads,” said Morris.

“It went well, I felt it was my best boxing performance, I caught him with a good variety of shots and he didn’t catch me. I felt relaxed and in control.

“He had a tight guard, I tried opening him up, with shots to the body, but he knew his way around a ring and I couldn’t find an opening.

“It was good experience and a perfect night really. I’m trying for a shot at that vacant Midland Area title and I’m hoping I’ve done enough to impress people to give me that shot.”

Morris is enjoying a few days in Wales with his fiancée and two children but already is looking to get back in training on his return.

“It’s good to get away with the family for a few days and relax. I think the next fight could be for the title, though, around October time.

“I would like it to be in Ludlow but if it was on a Matchroom show that would just as good.

“It was a great atmosphere on Saturday and I really appreciate the loyal support of the fans who came along to cheer me on.

“I made it look an easy night against an opponent who probably has the most wins of all the people I have fought.”

Morris is now unbeaten in six fights since becoming Ludlow’s first professional in 75 years.

He said: “I’ll be back in training when I get back and should hopefully know soon if I get the shot at the title.

“It would be great for the area if I do and it's in Ludlow but if not it’s a chance to maybe build a fan base in the wider Midlands area.”
