SKIPPER Zack Yarranton bowled Tenbury Wells to a comprehensive win then said it’s ‘crunch time’ as far as their Worcestershire County League promotion hopes are concerned.

The Division Five leaders thrashed Enville 3rd by 10 wickets to stay just ahead of Hallow and Old Elizabethans with Yarranton taking 5-10 off 10 overs as the hosts were blown away for just 36 in 28.1 overs.

Yarranton said: “I had an inkling we would get through them as they are near the bottom but I didn’t expect it quite that easily. We were all done by about 4pm.

“We tried Aaron Morris at the start to see if he could get one of the openers but Rob Farrar got both and they couldn’t get him away, and then I came on at the other end and seemed to rattle through them.

“Not only did we bowl well but we took all our catches; we have fielded really well lately which helps.

“It sets us up nicely for what are a big two weeks for our season. We play Hallow this week and then Old Elizabethans. If we can win both those games we could have one hand on the trophy but you never know in cricket.

“It’s very close at the top and we could do with getting away from them if possible.

“Fortunately, for virtually the first time this season, we have everyone available so rather than scratching around for players we have a nice selection issue.

“Young Matt Jones came up from the 2s and opened with Andrew Adams and looked very good, hitting them around the park.

“The pitch was soft and they haven’t played for a couple of weeks because the ground was under water but we bowled very well, and they just couldn’t get us away plus the outfield was quite long. I was getting a lot of swing and they couldn’t free their arms against Rob, then Jack Farrar nipped out the last three.

“I’m really pleased with how things are going at the moment. It’s crunch time now and I’m desperate for us to win the league, I’m already nervous about this weekend and it’s only Monday.

I think we deserve to be up in a higher division but when you are down there it can be tough to get back.

“Hallow at home this week is massive.”

One player who didn’t get chance to shine was opener Adams who had to be content with six not out after a string of half centuries but it was Jones who impressed with 31 as Tenbury coasted to victory inside nine overs.

Tenbury 2nd also enjoyed a win at Enville 4ths with the hosts restricted to 162-7 by William Rogers-Coltman taking 4-20, Brian Pearsall making 76.

Ian Taylor then took charge with a fine 90 as the visitors won with four wickets and more than 11 overs to spare.
