LUDLOW Rugby Club's Linney ground is without its rugby posts for the first time in many years.

Both sets have been removed to check their integrity and at the weekend volunteers repainted them in a two-day operation in preparation for the new season.

It was all part of the club's annual Groundforce work weekend.

Several volunteers from the club's senior and mini and junior sides donned overalls to help with the work which included reprinting changing rooms, building a compound for recycling skips, cutting grass and hedges and changing the current floodlights to LED which will give a brighter light for training and also save on the cost of electricity bills.

Chairman Andy Wright said: "Attendance was not quite as good as in previous years, partly because it clashed with England beating Australia for the third time, and partly because of heavy rain but we still achieved a tremendous amount over the course of the weekend. We plan to complete some of the projects this Saturday, starting at 10 and hope to see a few more faces."

The club begins training on Tuesday, July 5 at 7pm before the first match of the league season on September 10 versus Cleobury Mortimer.
