CROFT Ambrey's in-form Gemma Mallett dominated the women's competition in the second race of the 2016 Herefordshire Summer Off Road League held at Westhope as she repeated her first-race success.

The event was hosted by Hereford Couriers, with some testing long climbs to challenge the competitors from 13 participating clubs.

A strong group of 23 from Ludlow Runners also competed with Wye Valley, Croft Ambrey, Hereford couriers, Maldwyn Harriers and Builth & District running clubs all fielding a number of teams in this race which was run over a hilly 5.2 mile course around Orchard Fields in Herefordshire.

After the second race of the summer series, Ludlow still find themselves in fifth place but the B team and C team both jumped places to 10th and 11th in a league of 18 teams after some great individual performances.

After the first race at Abbeydore a few weeks ago, when Ludlow fielded a weekend team, trainer/racer Dan Pavitt would have been pleased to see a Ludlow team strengthened with a number of athletes returning after injuries, holidays, etc.

Two of the returning athletes were Jamie Shingler and Craig Collier, with Jamie finishing the race in second place, but first in his age category, and Craig next home for Ludlow finishing in 14th overall in a strong field consisting of 134 athletes.

There were also strong runs from the consistent performers Matt Jenneson and Amy Fulford. Paul Lewis, Thomas Powell and Ian Prentice all finished within a 6 second gap. Jamie Green managed to hold off a late challenge from fellow team mate Paul Dews. Clive Richardson finished second in his age group.

The next race in the summer cross country series is to be hosted by Ludlow Runners at High Vinnalls on July 6.
