AUSTRALIAN quickie Todd Cornehls was back among the wickets to guide Church Stretton to victory over Ellesmere in Division Two of the Shropshire League.

The Melbourne pace ace took nine wickets on his debut at the start of May and on Saturday he claimed 6-31 to help secure a 79-run victory.

Stretton batted first and chalked up 158-8 from their 40 overs, skipper Peter Lee’s unbeaten 39 leading the way while there was also useful knocks from Gabriel Williams (34) and Ben Crump (28).

In reply, the home side struggled against Cornehls and Saif Khalid (2-35) with Lee also claiming a wicket late in the innings before Ellesmere’s last man retired hurt.

Also in Division Two, Bishop's Castle suffered a losing draw at home to high-flying Prees.

Batting first, the visitors reached 179-5 with Paul Cottrell (2-36) and Edgar Whately (2-31) the pick of the bowlers.

Richard Plat (35) and Andrew Lewis (16) gave Bishop's Castle a solid platform for their reply but they fell off the run-rate and at the close were 117-7 with Richard Powell unbeaten on 11.

Sher Muhammad Zahid took 5-38 but it wasn’t enough to stave off defeat for Corvedale at Church Aston in Division Three.

Brian Williams took 2-40 while some tight bowling from Ross Mantle (1-11 off seven overs) restricted the home side to 171-8.

But Corvedale struggled against some accurate bowling and they were all out for just 74 with Paul Mantle (12), Zahid (14) and Edward Williams (14) the only players to reach double figures.

Corvedale 2nd lost by five wickets at home to Welshpool 2nd in spite of an excellent 61 from opener and captain Russell Wilcox.

And Bishop's Castle 2nd lost to Acton Reynald 2nd by 45 runs, Satch Norton (17) and Chris Irving (4-25) the star performers.
