ANDY Powell’s double strike helped Haslemere to a 4-2 win over Ludlow in the final of the Men’s Vase final at London’s Olympic Park.

In a hugely entertaining encounter, the sides traded goals until Haslemere’s killer instinct put them out of sight and ensured they took the title.

The game started at a frantic pace with Haslemere drawing a great diving save out of Ludlow's David Hughes in the opening minute.

But it was Ludlow who stamped their mark on the game at the other end when they took the lead with a wonder goal from James Pratt in the third minute.

Hughes preserved the lead with a stunning double save and then scooped the ball out to safety with his glove.

Both goalies continued to be in the thick of the action but, after another few fine saves, there was nothing the Ludlow keeper could do to keep out a penalty stroke as Haslemere levelled the scores on 19 minutes.

At the start of the second half the Surrey outfit were twice denied by a combination of Hughes and the woodwork but the pressure eventually told when the keeper was beaten with a superb backhand.

Pratt levelled things up with his second of the match but the joy was short lived as Haslemere replied with a quick-fire brace as they secured their Vase victory.

Ludlow skipper Vijay Chumber congratulated Haslemere on a deserved victory but vowed that his side would be back at the Olympic Park next season.
