CHURCH Stretton dug deep to power into the final of the North Midlands Vase Plate for the second successive season with a spirited win over Bromyard.

The Samurai trailed 14-3 at the break in last Saturday’s semi-final, but rallied to finish 32-21 winners and now tackle Greyhound in the final at Dudley Kingswinford this Sunday (11.15am). In last year’s final Stretton lost in a penalty shoot-out to Redditch after the game ended in a draw.

With the elements in their favour, Bromyard responded quickly to an early penalty from Stretton skipper Tom Chard to reply with two converted tries.

But Stretton, who felt the half-time scoreline failed to reflect the balance of play, turned the tables to dominate the second half with some powerful forward play and superb offloading. George Bagley, Alex Hale, Danny Harley and Dan Harris all went over the Bromyard line and the reliable Chard added the extra points.
