TENBURY RFC suffered late disappointment as a last gasp drop goal handed victory to neighbours Greyhound and deny the visitors a fifth straight victory in Midlands Five West (North).

But they were not helped by losing Fraser Young, Ricky Evans and Craig Parkes to injury during the game before picking up a yellow card to further limit their attacking options.

Tenbury had chalked up a 29-0 win in the reverse fixture the previous week and once again made the better start.

With the wind at their backs, and following some excellent work by the three-quarters, Parkes powered over for the opening try which Claude Celton converted.

But the home side, who had the slope in their favour in the first half, powered back with an unconverted try to trim Tenbury’s lead to 7-5 at the break.

The second period saw the visitors utilise the slope while running the ball instead of kicking into the wind. And they soon claimed a second try, Ben Spires starting the move on his own 22 before the ball was worked to Callum Spires who outpaced the defence to score for a 12-5 lead.

Greyhound fought back with two tries to open up a 17-12 lead only for the visitors to crank up the pressure and draw level when Lawson Thomas dotted down.

It looked as though the honours would be shared but with time running out and with Greyhound having a penalty advantage, a cheeky drop goal secured a 20-17 victory for the home side.

In Midlands Three West (North), Cleobury Mortimer eased to a 39-3 win at basement club Bloxwich to keep them in third place ahead of this week’s trip to a Newcastle side just one point behind them.

Second-placed Ludlow lost ground on leaders Tamworth following their 46-20 defeat at Newcastle.

Will Sparrow scored all 20 points including a try in each half but his side were hindered by having Phil Parkes limp off with an ankle injury having already lost centre Danny Hicks to hamstring trouble in the warm-up

Coach Norman Stalker will be hoping they can put that defeat behind them before they go into Saturday’s derby clash with Clee Hill who warmed up with an impressive 28-13 win at Burntwood.

In Midlands Four West (North) there were defeats for both Bishop's Castle & Onny Valley and Church Stretton.

The former went down 15-5 at Aston Old Eds while Stretton suffered a 66-12 mauling at the hands of Yardley & District.

Bishop's Castle are involved in one of just three league games on Saturday when they welcome basement club Market Drayton to the Community College.

[blob]Ludlow-born second row Jonny Hill made his Premiership debut for Exeter Chiefs on Sunday, helping the Devon club to a 30-15 victory at Worcester Warriors.

The 6’7” former Luctonians forward was handed his chance after impressing in the previous week’s European Champions Cup clash with Welsh side Ospreys.
