Ludlow Golf Club’s first Captain v Professional match of the year saw some excellent goal with the honours being shared.

Captain John Harris, partnered by John Bown, halved a tight match against professional Russell Price and partner Ernie Wilks.

The remaining eight matches were just as close and with Howard Goodwin and Graham Jones winning the last contest it finished up 4 1/2 points apiece.

The next match in the series will be played on Sunday, February 21.

Bridgnorth’s H McNeill and D Donnelly took the honours in the club’s January Winter Open, edging out Lilleshall pair G Chapman and B Hall on countback over back nine after they tied on 44 points.

The leading Ludlow pair were A Meyrick and W Norton who finished third on 41 points.

The final event of the series takes place on Thursday, February 18 and to book one of the few remaining places, call the Ludlow Golf Club Pro Shop on 01584 856366.

Competition play returned to Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club in the form of the Men’s Double Roll Up. And it was closely fought contest with Dan Giles taking the spoils thanks to a superior back count on Foxes Run.

Dean Rogers also had an impressive day. His first game of 2016 coupled with a dose of man flu failed to knock him off his stride as he carded a two-over gross score of 43 points with five birdies to match Giles.

The winner said: “It was a complete contrast to last week where I struggled. This week I was very steady and hit a lot of fairways which made the approach play a lot easier.”
