NEW coach Sandra Burgess was given a good insight into the strengths to build on, and the areas to improve on, as Ludlow Swimming Club took part in their first National Arena League Division Three West gala of the new season at Stafford Leisure Centre.

They competed against Swadlincote, Burntwood, Telford Aqua, Perry Beeches B and Fox Hollies, and though the final result was disappointing, Burgess must have been encouraged to see Ludlow swimmers perform well in plenty of the races.

Many of the open events were undertaken by swimmers who made a special effort to return from university in order to support the club, and showed the high level of commitment and camaraderie amongst the members.

Isla Meredith, Kieran Martin and Jordan Angell all put in great performances on the night and a special mention goes to Rosalie Vlok and Ella Davies, both of whom swam for the club for the first time.

Jack Corston and Oliver Morgan, from the Open and 13 and Under teams respectively, gained second places in the 100 metres freestyle and 100 metres back events.

Swadlincote from Derbyshire won the round on 225 points with Ludlow finishing at the foot of the field on 133, but not too far adrift of both Telford Aqua (141) and Burntwood?(163). Fox Hollies scored 199 and Perry Beeches B 176.

The next event is on Sunday, November 14 (6.30pm) at the Tamworth Snowdome against host club Tamworth, Bromsgrove, Telford Aqua and Camphilll Edwardians, and it will be interesting to see how the swimmers perform after an additional period of training under the newly appointed Burgess.
