TENBURY driver Alex Summers is the new British Hill Climb champion after two emphatic wins at Doune in Scotland last weekend.
The 24-year-old completed the formalities of landing the title by winning both run-offs and he admitted afterwards: “It was such a relief as it seems to have been a very long and tiring season.
“I am more used to chasing the pack rather than leading so I had to drive with total commitment but sensibly, while making sure that I didn’t put the car through the hedge.
“The Gould GR61X itself has performed superbly and the amazing support from my family and other competitors – whom I think of as an extended family – has enabled me to tick this box and realise a dream.”
Scott Moran, the man who relinquishes the title, didn’t compete in Scotland but he was delighted for his young partner. The five-times champion said: “I am thrilled that Alex has won the title in our shared car. He led after the third round and has driven extremely maturely ever since.”
The final round at Loton Park near Shrewsbury this weekend sees Moran in the battle for the minor placings with Wallace Menzies and Trevor Willis.
