LUDLOW Men produced a curate’e egg of a performance in last weekend’s County Cup tournament, following two defeats with a morale-boosting victory.
They lost 2-0 to Market Drayton and 4-1 to Bridgnorth - Brendan Pratt netting - but then rose to the occasion with a 2-1 win over eventual winners Telford.
James Pratt levelled Telford’s early opener from a penalty corner, and he then added a second to set up a furious finish that saw Ludlow survive three Telford penalty corners in the last two minutes.
*LUDLOW 2nd secured an excellent 3-1 win over Market Drayton, who are from a division above.
Tom Moseley marked his return after a two-year absence with one of the goals and the others came from Joe Haywood and Tom Aston, who scored after an inventive ziz-zag corner routine also involving Haywood, Jake Watts and Gavin Hughes.
*THE newly formed Ludlow and Wenlock Ladies teams started their league campaigns with mixed results.
Davina Featherstone was the hat-trick hero as the 1st won 3-1 at Wem & Market Drayton but the younger 2nd were beaten 5-0 by a more experienced Shrewsbury 3rd.
New and returning lady players who may be interested in playing would be very welcome and should ring 01694 723543.
