RALLYING 175

NO FEWER than 180 crews will take part in this weekend’s Event Signs Woodpecker Stages Rally.

The popular Ludlow-based event kicks off from Ludlow Racecourse on Saturday featuring competitors from the REIS-Ravenol BTRDA National Rally Series and Pirelli MSA Welsh Rally Championship - and from modern-day world rally cars to historic classics.

Local heroes Shaun Gardener and Ben Innes return to the sport after several years away in their Mitsubishi E5. Ludlow-based Gardener had been planning to compete in 2014 but a back injury ruled him out. The duo will be looking to repeat 2006 and 2008 victories in the event.

The first competitors will leave the start at 8.30am on Saturday heading for the first spectator stage at around 9am at Haye Park. A service back at the Racecourse will be followed by a blast through the Radnor Stage near Monaughty at around midday. Crews will return to Ludlow for another service before a final run through Haye Park at 3pm. The Racecourse will host the finish ceremony and prizegiving in the afternoon.

Entry is £10 per vehicle and includes a programme.
