ED KEMP demolished Cleobury Mortimer’s individual scoring record last weekend with a dazzling double ton.?The 23-year-old opener went into the 2nd XI game against Kempsey 2nd with just 240 runs in 13 previous innings for the Worcestershire League outfit this season.

He almost doubled his tally for the campaign in smashing 207 not out, batting through the full 45 overs and hammering 17 sixes and 18 fours in a stunning exhibition of belligerent batting.

It allowed Cleobury 2nd, dismissed for 42 and 48 in their previous two games, to power to a daunting 350 all out and Kempsey wilted to 78 all out in the hot sun, with Cleobury skipper Jared Reid capitalising with 3-12 and Dave Robinson 4-14.?Kemp, whose previous best score was 113 against Knighton on Teme in 2011, said: “It is all a bit surreal to be honest.

"One of their fielders kept encouraging me to try and clear the big tree at the bottom of the ground so I took up the challenge! And it is fair to say I had a sore head on Sunday morning.”?Opener Ben Griffiths hit his second century inside a month for Cleobury Mortimer 1st, but still finished on the losing side against Division Three rivals Chaddesley Corbett.

Griffiths made an unbeaten 127 towards Cleobury’s 218 all out, and Chaddesley had few problems in knocking off the runs for the loss of five wickets in 35.4 overs.?Promotion-chasing Tenbury gave unbeaten Division Five leaders Stourport 3rd a run for their money before succumbing to a 32-run defeat.?Aaron Morris picked up 4-66 and Rob Farrar 3-62 as Tenbury dismissed Stourport for 238 in the 49th over, and veteran Mark Yarranton then hit 62 and Chris Giles 36 in a 206 reply. Yarranton and Giles added 97 for the fifth wicket and Tenbury were well set at one stage, needing 60 runs with six wickets in hand.?Skipper Steve Giles said: “We dropped a couple of catches in their innings and had both a run-out and a big lbw shout go against us.

"The guy who survived the run out hadn’t scored at the time and went on to make 54.

"Then their number eight batsman, who I was told afterwards was only 15, survived what we thought was an lbw to blast the ball all over the place for 52.?“While my brother Chris and Mark Yarranton were together we had a chance but Chris was out to a good diving catch and when Mark went too we fell away.”?Tenbury are now 34 points behind Astwood Bank, who sit in the second promotion spot, but Astwood Bank visit Stourport this weekend before then hosting Tenbury in a potentially decisive encounter on Saturday, August 22.?Long-serving opener Ian Taylor continued his good form with 87 for Tenbury 2nd, who were beaten by eight wickets by Stourport 4th. ?Taylor, who has now topped 600 league runs for the season - his best in over 20 years - was the mainstay behind Tenbury’s 186-9 but Stourport recovered from losing two quick wickets to Jamie Farrar to ease home on 187-2.
