ANDY Adams and Tom Pugh teamed up to navigate Tenbury to a nine-wicket Worcestershire League cruise against Redditch 3rd at Penlu.

Victory number 10 from 13 matches sees Tenbury handily placed in third spot in the Division Five table, 16 points adrift of second-placed Astwood Bank and 21 behind unbeaten leaders Stourport-on-Severn.

They still have to play both the leading pair in the final month of the season, with Astwood and Stourport also due to meet after their first scheduled match was washed out by bad weather,

The Tenbury bowlers produced a collective effort to dismiss Redditch for 119 in the 45th over, Robbie Farrar bagging three early victims for 3-49, captain Steve Giles 3-21 off ten tight overs and young Henry Anton claiming 2-17 off 9.3 overs.

Though Tenbury then lost opener Aaron Morris for just six, Adams found a willing ally in Pugh and they took the home team to victory with an unbroken second-wicket stand of 106. Adams finished on 62 not out (including ten fours) and Pugh was 38 not out when they achieved their target in the 24th over.

Skipper Giles said: “Robbie Farrar’s figures didn’t really do him justice as a lot of the runs he conceded were outside edges through the slips.

"We then scored 73 runs off the first ten overs of our reply, and only the introduction of Redditch’s slower bowlers stopped us winning earlier than we did.”

Ian Taylor came up trumps with both bat and ball as Tenbury 2nd made it a double winning weekend for the club with a six-wicket verdict over Redditch 4th.

Taylor (3-14) and Alfie Watts (3-18) shared six of the wickets as Redditch were bowled out for 158, and Taylor then chipped in 37 as Tenbury swept home for the loss of four wickets in the 34th over. Skipper Ben Thompson also made 36 and Matt Jones 26.
