PLAYER-MANAGER Kristian Morgan was on the spot as Orleton Colts lifted the Stephen Apperley Memorial Cup in a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Woofferton last weekend.

The tournament involved four teams from the Hereford Times Herefordshire League - Premier Division Orleton, their reserve side who play in Division Three, Division One outfit Woofferton and newly promoted Division Two champions Tenbury Town - contesting two semi-finals to qualify for the final.

Orleton, who had beaten their reserve side 4-1 to reach the final, raced into a 3-0 lead against holders Woofferton with goals from Will Caswell (2) and Mike Shilcock.

But dogged Woofferton, who had defeated Tenbury Town 1-0 in the other semi-final, refused to go under and they rallied to level matters with goals from Dickie Everall (2) and Luke Pugh pulling it back to 3-3.

With no further scoring the game went to penalties, and Orleton goalkeeper Kelvin Thomas immediately gave his side the edge by saving the first spot-kick from Woofferton’s Everall.

The next eight were converted, leaving man-of-the-moment Morgan to keep his composure and win the shoot-out by slotting Orleton’s fifth penalty into the bottom right-hand corner.

Organiser Dave ‘Magnum’ Thomas of Woofferton said:?“We raised £400 and it will be split between the Midland Air Ambulance and the Orleton Recreation Committee.”

Woofferton start training at Haynall Lane at 7pm on Tuesday.

Any new players are welcome to attend.
