BISHOP’S Castle & Onny Valley will stage a festival of rugby to officially open their new ground on Crow Gate Road this Sunday.

The Midlands 4 West (North) outfit celebrate the move from Love Lane with a touch rugby sevens tournament being the major focus of a family fun day.

The event kicks off at midday and will feature junior, adult and mixed teams, with the trophies presented by Peter Edwards, the Scarlets prop.

There will also be bouncy castle, team sports and a band, Over the Hillbillies.

Coach Darren Price said: “To level and seed the new pitch cost £12,000 and the RFU gave us a grant for half that.

"We have also gained further grants for this Sunday as part of the NatWest RugbyForce initiative.

"It is an exciting time for the club.”

The community feel has also been boosted by Bishop’s Castle being selected as the headquarters for Trust Rugby International Shropshire, running the Salopian Stags, a unified team allowing players with and without disability to play rugby together and enjoy the benefits of the social and community side of the sport.

Meanwhile Bishop’s Castle have elected Richard Montague as their chairman, Gareth Jones as captain for 2015-16 and Henry Wilson as vice-captain.
