CLEE Hill United boss Wayne Whitbread has described Mercian League Cup final opponents Rock Rovers as “the best team in the division.”

Whitbread’s boys tackle Rock at AFC Telford’s Bucks Head ground this Saturday in the final of the Division One Cup.

"We will have to perform well to win.

"In my opinion Rock are the best side in the division, even though they finished third, just a place above us.

“But we are strong as well so there is no reason why we can’t win it.

"Ollie Smith up front could be a key player - he has the ability to win it for us on his own.

“We drew at home to Rock in the league but we led twice and let it slip.

"We lost 3-1 at their place but we played well on the day.”

Clee Hill will be looking to go one better than two years ago when they reached the final, only to lose 3-1 in extra-time to Madeley at the Bucks Head.

Whitbread added: “I had booked a holiday and missed that final so I am hoping to make up for that with a victory this Saturday.”

Meanwhile, former AFC Ludlow players Aaron and Dale Hodge have completed a promotion double with Kington Town.

The Hodges both turned out for AFC last season - Aaron only fleetingly - when they were crowned West Midlands (Regional) League Division Two champions.

Now they have won the same division with Kington, who like Ludlow have claimed the title at the first time of asking.

The Hodge brothers played key roles in the success, with Aaron top-scoring with 21 goals and Dale bagging nine from midfield.

It means Ludlow will face Kington in a couple of tasty local derbies next season, and it could see the Hodge brothers - their other sibling Nathan plays for AFC - pitted against each other.
