CHURCH Stretton overcame an injury to wicketkeeper Adam Harris to make it two wins out of two in the Shropshire County League.

They squeezed home against Division Two visitors Much Wenlock by two wickets, but were effectively down to their last pair when victory arrived, with Harris having been taken to hospital for eight stitches in a cut mouth after being hit by a bail.

The match was reduced to 30 overs apiece and Much Wenlock were dismissed for 103 in 22, Saif Khalid taking three for 38, Tom Crump three for 29 and young seamer Edward Groom an impressive three for 14.

Khalid then hit 29 and both skipper Peter Lee (12) and Martin Nichols (13) chipped in to leave the last pairing of Alister Forrest and youngster Tomas Quraishi to take out the final few runs.

Opener Dave Bradley carried his bat for an unbeaten 97 as Corvedale overcame Ludlow 3rd by four wickets in Division Three.

They were chasing 147 after keeping Ludlow 3rd down to 146 for five in 35 overs, Simon Miles hitting 59, and Bradley took charge to see Corvedale home in the 33rd over.

William Wood was a brilliant century-maker for Ludlow 2nd as they dismissed St Georges 2nd by 121 runs in Reserve Division One.

Wood, batting at No.8, contributed 110 of Ludlow’s 256 for nine and St Georges were rolled over for 135, Glen Whittaker snapping up three for eight and Tom Gloster, who had earlier made 41 not out, taking three for 50.

Bishop’s Castle 2nd were involved in a thrilling tie with Tibberton in Reserve Division Three.

Tibberton made 116 for seven and, in reply, Rich Fifield (35) and Mike Harris (35) put on 55 for the third wicket before the hosts reached the last over needing four to win. But a run out off the last ball left Bishop’s Castle all square on 116 for nine.

Ludlow’s Premier Division fixture at St Georges fell victim to the weekend rain, as did Bishop’s Castle’s Division Two match with Welshpool.

Ludlow were hoping the weather improved for last night’s (Wednesday) opening South Shropshire Twenty20 fixture with Cleobury Mortimer.

Next Wednesday they face Tenbury at The Burway in another Twenty20 game.

James Manley led the way as Cleobury Mortimer banked a second win in Division Three of the Worcestershire League.

Manley (four for 39) and Ben Griffiths (four for 28) shared all eight wickets as Rushwick were restricted to 161 for eight, and Manley’s lusty 62 helped Cleobury home by three wickets. Cleobury Mortimer 2nd were 129-run winners over Oldswinford & Stourbridge Social 2nd. Openers Ralph Timmins (72) and Oliver Green (31) were key to their success.
