BROMFIELD’S Lewis Rogers claimed the League Juniors crown for the second time as Ludlow Castle Bowling Club hosted the Flowfit Ludlow and District Bowls League’s first competition of the summer.

Rogers, who will be too old to defend the title next year, beat Adam Dovey in the final, racing into a 15-2 lead after 11 ends and seeing off Dovey’s fightback to finish 21-11 winner.

Five of the eight competitors were from the junior county side so there was no shortage of quality on display.

The competition was split into two groups of four with games of 15 up, with Harry Parsonage and Jack Bufton qualifying at the expense of Camilla Parsonage and George Cooper, and Rogers and Dovey coming through against Jordan Bull and Jack Parsonage.

All four semi-finalists came from Burway BC and the first saw Harry Parsonage take on Dovey. Parsonage started well and went 4-0 up but Dovey proved useful on long marks and took a 9-4 lead. Parsonage battled bravely and got it back to 12-10 but Dovey got the block back for a comfortable 21-10 win. Semi-final two saw Rogers sneak a 6-5 lead and he soon found himself 16-7 up. Bufton gave his all but Rogers won 21-9. League secretary Steve Burmingham made the presentations and thanked Ludlow Castle BC for hosting the competition and providing a “brilliant” bowling surface.
