CRAIG Morris celebrated a winning start to life as a professional boxer at Walsall Town Hall.

The promising 23-year-old Ludlow fighter claimed a clear points verdict over the experienced Kevin McCauley from Brighton.

His intended opponent, Pole Robert Studzinski, pulled out at late notice due to injury, so Morris was pitted against McCauley, a tough 35-year-old super welterweight with over 100 professional bouts to his name.

Morris won all four rounds for a 40-36 verdict.

“It was great to get my first professional fight out of the way, and I am even happier to have won it," said Morris.

“I didn’t know the change of opponent until Friday night but the guy I boxed is well known and quite a clever fighter.

"He’s been around for a long time and other people told me it was a pretty tough debut.

“So much is different compared to boxing as an amateur but I am really happy the way things went on the night.

"I had over 100 fans supporting me as well and they made a hell of a noise.

"hey were brilliant and I would like to thank them.”

Morris is now expected to have his second fight early in July and awaits news on a venue and opponent.
