TENBURY Town can almost touch the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Division Two title.

They beat basement boys Civil Service 3-1 in a poor game at Palmer’s Meadow last Saturday and now need just a point from their remaining two home fixtures against Kington Town Reserves and Hereford City to get the champagne corks popping.

Chris Patton, man-of-the-match Mark Boucker from the penalty spot and Alex Lombardi, who brilliantly lobbed home after a mesmerising 60-yard solo run, notched the goals that saw off their Hereford-based visitors, who finished with ten men.

But a below-par performance suggested that Town possibly had their minds on last night’s HFA Junior Cup final with Ledbury Town Reserves at Westfields.

In the Herefordshire Sunday League North Division, Tenbury Athletic took part in a remarkable goalfest at Bromyard Downs, losing 10-5.

They trailed 7-1 at the break but rallied in the second period against a Bromyard side who had beaten them 4-0 the previous Sunday. James Stone claimed a hat-trick for Tenbury with Tony Gittens and Keiron Worthington adding the others.

Shrewsbury Sunday League side Norbury bowed out of the DS Milward Consolation Cup with a 3-1 home defeat by Condover Foxes. They were always on the back foot after conceding a first-minute penalty and though Mark Hudson pegged it back to 2-1 in the second half when a Martyn Ziemann shot was parried into his path, the visitors clinched the tie with a third goal.
