TENBURY Town have their sights firmly fixed on celebrating a memorable double in the next fortnight.

Bob Sumner’s side require just four points from their final three games to lift the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Division Two crown - and they also meet Ledbury Town Reserves in the final of the HFA Junior Cup.

Division Two leaders Sinkums have finished their programme with 33 points from 14 matches, and Town, beaten only once in the league this season by the Hereford side, have three home fixtures against lowly opponents in which to overhaul them.

They begin the sequence against Civil Service at Palmers Meadow this Saturday before facing Kington Town Reserves and Hereford City.

They have a score to settle with Kington Reserves as one of Town’s three defeats this season was a remarkable 6-5 extra-time reverse at Mill Street in the HJ?Handley Cup back in February.

It would be fitting if they were to clinch the title in two weeks time by avenging that loss.

In between their league commitments, Sumner’s men face Ledbury Town Reserves in the HFA Junior Cup at Allpay Park next Wednesday night (7.30pm) bidding to go one better than last season, when they surrendered the lead to lose 2-1 in the final to Orleton Colts.

They have produced some eye-catching results in reaching this season’s final, accounting for Shobdon Reserves (9-1), local neighbours Woofferton (13-12 in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw), Fownhope Reserves (3-2 from 2-0 down) and Sinkums (3-2 after extra time).

Club official Darren Worthington said: “We have beaten some pretty decent sides in the competition and it would be great to finish if off by defeating Ledbury - and it would make up for losing in last year’s final.

"We expect to have a fully fit squad available.”

Tenbury United drew a frustrating blank as they warmed up for last night’s big date in the final of the HFA Charity Bowl with a 1-0 home defeat by Pegasus Reserves in the Premier Division of the Herefordshire League.

United, who were playing Westfields Reserves at Wellington last night, were strangely lacklustre on Saturday and were beaten by a second half goal.

Joint boss Nick Stocker said: “I don’t know if the final was playing on our minds but it was a poor game of few chances for either side. We just never got going really and it was disappointing.”
