IT’S one down and one to go for Tenbury United in their bid for a county cup double.

They lifted the HFA Charity Bowl with a deserved 2-0 win over Westfields Reserves in Wednesday night’s final at Wellington.

Now they look forward to the final of the HFA Senior Cup against Wellington at Leominster on Saturday, May 2.

Westfields suffered an early setback when Lee Hartshorn gashed his head in the opening two minutes. After going off for 10 minutes of running repairs he returned to the fray for a further five minutes before being withdrawn again to take a trip to hospital.

The Hereford side enjoyed plenty of possession but failed to turn it into anything tangible in front of goal. Tenbury keeper Robbie Farrar was never seriously tested.

In contrast Tenbury stole ahead on 15 minutes when Mike Foster headed home over a stranded Jason Davies from a Dan Gittens’ free-kick.

They created several other gilt-edged openings, with Ryan Morris missing the best of them when he dragged a shot across the face of goal.

But the troublesome Tenbury wide man made amends when he was upended in the box ten minutes from time and inspirational joint boss Aaron Morris drove home from the penalty spot.

Nick Stocker, his fellow manager, said: “That was the best we’ve played for a while and I am very proud of the lads. It’s been a hard season and it is nice to finish with something to show for it.”

Meanwhile, AFC Ludlow are one game of away from playing at Villia Park after beating Shenstone Pathfinders 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the West Midlands (Regional) League Division 1 Cup.

Dave Cooper's side will now face Stone Old Alleynians in the last four.
