THE pupils from Ludlow Junior School grabbed the glory in a Super League five-a-side shoot-out at the town's leisure centre.

Ludlow Arrows, from Year 6, took the title after losing just one game in the Tuesday night sessions – to the team who finished runners-up, Ludlow Dragons, all Year 5s.

Ludlow Cobras and Bulldogs also performed well as the school entered four teams in the annual tournament for the first time.

"All four teams can be proud of themselves, they are a credit to the school," said teaching assistant Liam Whitbread, who supervised the sessions with colleagues Dave Evans, Hannah Kinsey and Claire Boulton.

"The Arrows also won the Knockout Cup so have achieved a notable double.

"All credit, too, to the Dragons. They were mostly playing against boys and girls from Year 6 and were top of the league themselves for quite a while."

The organisers gave special star player awards to Jack Condliffe (Dragons), Ethan Waldron (Bulldogs), Chris Francis (Cobras) and Harry Jones (Arrows), with Sam Barber taking home a trophy as the leagueâs leading scorer with 29 goals. The five-a-side league will resume in September, with the school again looking to enter four teams.
