MARTIN ‘Paddy’ Brennan is expecting a top evening of international boxing tomorrow night when England take on Ireland in Tenbury.

More than 400 people from across the country are expected to attend the event, with 14 bouts set to take place.

“I was asked by the High Sheriff of Worcester, Michael Hogan, to arrange a high quality evening of boxing,” explained Brennan, co-organiser of the event and owner of Paddy Brennan Boxing Academy. “I went over to Ireland and asked if we could get some of their best amateur fighters to come over and take part.

“These are fighters who have been groomed for the Olympics, they are top quality.

“We’ve got Niall Farrell who is a top young English fighter.

“He’s been ABA Youth Champion and has already represented England at amateur level.

“Ireland are bringing Daniel Duggan, he’s primed to become an Irish World Champion.”

The evening includes 14 sanctioned bouts certified by the British amateur Boxing Board of Control. The card includes local fighter Liz Williams who is taking part in her second public fight.

“Liz is a great lady, she’s got a fantastic story behind her,” said Brennan. “She walked into the gym 12 months ago to take part in some fitness training, and a year on she’s fighting in the ring.”

The annual dinner, being held at Tenbury High Sports Hall, will bring together a wide selection of people, including High Sheriffs and MPs, to support the sport and the work of Paddy Brennan’s Boxing Academy & Rehabilitation Centre.

“We put in a lot of effort here welcoming young people from all walks of life,” said Brennan. “As well as the fitness side of boxing, we teach kids the importance of hard work and discipline and we help to build their own self-confidence. It’s a worthwhile cause and we’re delighted to have an event like this to support our work.”

In addition to the exciting programme of boxing, the evening includes a drinks reception, three-course dinner, live entertainment and singer and silent and live auctions.

Local boxer Craig Morris, who will make his professional boxing debut on April 25, is also due to attend. Tickets are available on the night, with doors opening at 7:30pm. For details call Paddy Brennan on 07904 396465.
