TENBURY United have been praised after they helped a Ewyas Harold player who lost consciousness following a clash of heads at the end of their game last Saturday.

Will Lindesay had to be put in the recovery position following the accidental collision that happened towards the end of the Hereford Times Herefordshire Football League Premier Division game at Palmers Meadow.

Both teams agreed to abandon the match, with Lindsay’s goal securing Harold a 1-0 win.

“We want to thank the Tenbury players and management team for their thoughts and help on the day, they were fantastic,” said Ewyas Harold director Malcolm Watkins.

“The manager said to blow the whistle after it happened, which I thought was a fantastic gesture.

“Will was still a bit groggy on Saturday and Sunday but is recovering. Thankfully we had first aiders there who helped him and he did not need to go to hospital.”

Tenbury joint manager Aaron Morris said football is forgotten when incidents like that happen.

“One of our players went over to help and make sure he was in the recovery position,” said Morris.

“When something like that happens you forget about the game, you just hope the player is ok."

United ran Harold close, with Morris pleased with the performance.

“We had a few players out, so we didn’t go into the game expecting to get anything from it,” he said,

“The players who came in put in a fantastic performance.”

The teams battled out a goalless first half, before the visitors took the lead shortly after the hour mark when Lindsay unleashed an unstoppable shot into the back of the net.

“They only had a handful of attempts all game,” said Morris.

“But to give them credit the goal was a top-class effort.”

After keeping the reigning champions at bay for over an hour, Morris admitted that his side were disappointed that they hadn’t managed to pick up a point from the game.

“We performed well, we had a few chances ourselves and I think we deserved at least a point,” said Morris.

United face Orleton Colts this Saturday. Morris says it is a game his team are not taking lightly.

“It’s a big game for us because if we win our games in hand we could catch them,” said Morris.

A HFA Charity Bowl semi-final game against Ewyas Harold then follows.
