COACH Colin Woodfield is predicting an entertaining night of boxing at Ludlow Racecourse tomorrow night.

Ludlow Amateur Boxing Club will put on a star-studded 11 bouts with fighters from all over the Midlands competing.

There will also be plenty of local talent too.

Max Weaver, 10, will take part in his first ‘skills-bout’ showcasing the boxing skills he has developed during his time at the club, while 13-year-old Jack Barnfield will compete in his first ever public bout.

“It takes real courage for the youngsters to go into the ring, in front of hundreds of people, but I am sure they will put on a good show," said Woodfield, who is vice-chairman at the club.

Chadd Woodfield, who has 36 bouts under his belt already despite only being 15, is the elite youngster on show, and goes onto the card following his appearance at the Midland Junior Championships Finals held in Birmingham.

In the senior bouts, experienced elite amateur James Key, 23, who will be fighting in his Midlands title vest that was won earlier this year, will be one of the main attractions.

Local fighters George Sloan, Sam Hartley and Chris Preece will also be in action and will be joined by fellow fighters from around the Midlands.

The evening has already seen tickets for the sit-down meal sell out, while over 100 more people are expected to turn up on the evening to watch the action.

“It’s taken a lot of work to organise, but we’re hopeful it will be a good advert for boxing, and in particular for boxing in and around Ludlow," said Woodfield.

“It’s very pleasing to see the support we’ve got for the event from local businesses and boxing fans.

"If anyone hasn’t bought tickets then they can still turn up on the evening.

"We’re always looking for more support for our fighters and our club.”

Doors open at 6.30pm, with tickets priced at £12.

The boxing is expected to get underway at around 8pm.
