NEWCASTLE ended a run of three league defeats with a much needed victory over St Harmon.

The visitors started the game two points above Newcastle in the Financial Watson Mid-Wales League (South) table.

The three points sees Newcastle leap-frog their opponents, climbing to 7th place in the table.

It was a convincing victory for the home side who responded well to their previous weeks 3-1 loss at the hands of Builth Wells.

Newcastle manager John Goodridge would have been pleased to see his side taking control of the game from the off with Craig Morris scoring a first half brace to give his side the half time advantage.

The visitors enjoyed their best spell of the game after the break, but Newcastle stood firm and soon regained the initiative with Ryan Bufton capping a fine performance to score Newcastle’s third.

Craig Morris had an excellent chance to secure his hat-trick but saw his penalty kick well saved.

Thankfully for Morris, youngster Ed Marston was on hand to save his blushes, nipping in to cleverly lift the ball over defenders on the line to wrap up the scoring.

Newcastle have this weekend off, before travelling to third placed Hay St Mary’s on March 7.
