TENBURY United came from behind to beat Fownhope and book their place in the final of the Herefordshire Football League Senior Cup.

The Palmers Meadow side got off to a slow start and found themselves a goal down after just 15 minutes.

But Tenbury managed to draw level before the break thanks to a well placed shot from Ryan Morris.

The visitors started the second half the brightest of the two teams and would have retaken the lead had it not been for the Tenbury defensive partnership of Dale Withers and Gaz Edwards who both put in solid performances. As the game wore on, Tenbury managed to get more involved in the game; Lee Millichip thought he’d won it for the hosts but saw his goal ruled out for offside, while teenager Ash Giles saw two decent chances go wide.

Giles was involved with the winner however, providing Ryan Morris with the delivery that saw the striker grab his second goal of the game with just five minutes left on the clock.

United joint manager Nick Stocker was pleased to get the win, but warned his side against complacency.

"We’re really happy with the result, but perhaps not the performance," said Stocker.

"We can’t afford to have such poor spells in games.

"On another day we may not have the chance to get ourselves back into the match.”

Tenbury now face Wellington Reserves in the final, on a date yet to be confirmed, and Stocker predicts a closely fought encounter.

“I think they will know it will be tough game but I’m sure it will be a good final as we both like to try and play football," he said.

"We’ve already played Wellington a few times this year so we know a lot about each other.”
