CLEOBURY Mortimer are just two wins away from a Twickenham final as their incredible season continues.

The Shropshire outfit are runaway leaders of Midland Four West (North) having won all 14 fixtures so far this season.

They have now reached the regional final of the Midlands Junior Vase following another convincing victory.

“We did very well and I don’t get bored of saying that either,” said Cleobury captain Will Bache, after his side defeated Evesham 27-3 to set up a tie at defending champions Rugby Lions.

“We’re playing very well.

“We knew it would be a difficult game. They were a strong team but we did well. From one to 20 we were outstanding. The second half we blew them away to be honest.

Bache said his players were buoyed by a press report by a paper in Evesham suggesting their players were confident of beating his men.

In the end, that threat never materialised with Alex Howman scoring two tries for Cleobury with Jack Bills adding one.

Dave Leach added three conversions and two penalties.

In the regional final, Cleobury travel to Rugby Lions, who top that division with a 100 per cent record with 13 wins out of 13, similar to Cleobury.

“They will be massive favourites,” said Bache.

“They were in National One a few years ago but had to reform and they’re flying.

“But we’ve got nothing to lose. We had a lot of people watching on Saturday and I hope they’ll come and watch us at Rugby.”

Should Cleobury pull off a victory they would reach the national semi-finals with the winner of that into the national final at Twickenham.

The Rugby tie is on March 14.

This Saturday, Cleobury entertain eighth-placed Bromyard knowing they are potentially two wins from the title.

Church Stretton are also celebrating after reaching the final of the North Midlands Vase Plate to keep their double dreams alive.

Stretton, who are top of Midlands 5 West (North) beat higher-graded Yardley & District 36-0 and now face Redditch.

Tom Ward and Danny Harley both grabbed two tries for the Samurai with Joe Collins and Tom Chard also getting on the scoresheet.

Jamie Houghton and Jamie Longhurst added the conversions in the dominant win.

Church Stretton are two points clear of Aldridge at the top of Midlands 5 West (North) having won 10 of their 12 games.

In Midlands Four (West) North Bishop's Castle beat Bromyard 15-6.
