TENBURY Town manager Bob Sumner believes more games should be played earlier in the season to ensure teams do not face a fixture backlog.

Town have only played five games in Hereford Times Herefordshire Football League Division Two and saw their game at Kingstone Rovers called off last Saturday.

“It’s pretty annoying that games are being called off because we all get ready and up for the game,” said Sumner.

“It maybe needs looking at with a larger winter break and a few more games earlier in the season.

“Because off our cup runs we are behind in the league, but it allows us to see what the other teams are doing and what we need to do to be contenders for promotion.

“So I don’t mind playing catch-up.”

Town travel to Weobley this Saturday.

The Herefordshire side have played seven more games than Tenbury.

“It will be a tough game,” said Sumner.

“Their league season is coming to an end so they will want to go out on a high.

“We know we need to keep playing as we have been to get a result because one loss could throw the league open again.”

Town have a full squad to choose from, with Steve Sumner returning from a broken ankle.
