PAUL Liggins was on the mark in the men's double roll-up competition at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club.

Despite a warning in place for high winds, the event saw some fantastic golf being played over two days.

The competition allows players to participate on either day, with the best scores of the weekend picking up prizes.

Liggins, playing with his close friends Bob Lucas and John Westley, made a mockery of the tough conditions with a storming back nine to shoot 40 and take top spot.

Dave Pain, director of the golf at the club, said that Liggins is a very dangerous player off his handicap and is capable of doing well no matter what the conditions.

"It's interesting that Paul won playing with previous winners Bob and John.

"I'm sure if this continues, everyone will want to play with these two."

Andy Thomas, who currently leads the Division One Order of Merit, continued his fine form with 38 points scored on the Saturday and topped the leaderboard before Liggins won it.

Youngster Jem Jones scored 37 points to take third place from a host of other members, including John Haywood, Stuart Humphries and Dean Carpenter, with a superior back count.

Final standings: 1 Paul Liggins - 40 pts, 2 Andy Thomas - 38, 3 Jem Jones - 37 (on cb).
