CHURCH Stretton returned to winning ways in style by recording a fine 28-23 win in their top of the table clash at Warley in Midlands Five West (North).

The Shropshire side travelled to the Black Country missing a number of players through injury and it looked as though it would be a long afternoon for Stretton when they conceded an early try.

The lead was extended thanks to a penalty, with Stretton's defence ensuring the home side didn't extend the lead further.

But as the half wore on Stretton worked their way into the game and using their pace they caused Warley some problems and got on the scoresheet thanks to a Tim Downes penalty from distance, with the same player adding another penalty a short time later.

Another break from the backs was stopped just short of the line as Warley won a turnover, but when they kicked clear to full-back Downes he responded with a superb drop kick from the half-way line.

A strong chase from the restart saw flanker Jack Titley intercept the ball and he fed James Lowther to score.

Downes added a further penalty before the break.

In the second half, Warley grabbed a fortuitous try to get them back in to the game but any hopes of a comeback were quashed when the visitors scored their second try soon after through Ben Wintle.

Warley scored another penalty before TomWard scored a try for Stretton, which was converted by Downes.

In the last minute Warley scored a try to secure a bonus point.
