TWO of the region's rugby teams go into the Christmas break top of their leagues.

Cleobury Mortimer are 12 points clear in Midlands 4 West (North) having won all of their 11 games, accumulating a massive 485 points in the process and just conceding 46.

Last Saturday, they grabbed an 18-7 win at Telford Hornets and will be hoping to secure another win when they host bottom club Tenbury on January 10.

Church Stretton have also had an excellent start to life in Midlands 5 West (North) in their debut season as an affiliated RFU side.

The Samurai have won seven of their opening eight games, with their only loss coming at the hands of St Leonards last Saturday.

St Leonards ran out 12-5 winners, which leaves Stretton's lead at the top cut to just four points.

Meanwhile, Bishops Castle were humbled 36-5 by Barton-under-Needwood in Midlands 4 West (North).

The result means Castle are now eight points behind Cannock in the race to get promoted.

Clee Hill bounced back from a difficult couple of weeks by beating Uttoxeter 21-10 in Midlands 3 West (North).

Clee were thrashed by Handsworth and Harborne during their previous two games, but this result means they should be safe for another season.
