HEUWEN Gilbert of Ludlow Runners once again came top in the third event of the Herefordshire Cross Country League series at Ufton Court.

The teenager surged away from the start and was never threatened as she increased her advantage to romp home in impressive style to register a comprehensive victory in 32nd place overall.

Croft Ambrey's Gemma Mallett gradually worked her way through the field to record her best ever league position in second place, while Hereford Triathlon Club's Faith Addison was third.

It was Wye Valley Runners, however, who took the team honours, giving them a three-point victory over Croft Ambrey.

Gilbert led her Ludlow team to third place thanks to her twin sister, Ellish, finishing seventh with Sarah Williams in 20th.

In the battle for the women's league title, Wye Valley hold a slender one-point lead over reigning champions Croft Ambrey, with Ludlow a further five points adrift.

The fourth event in the five-race series will be held at Monkhall Farm on Sunday, January 11.

The event will also incorporate the Herefordshire County Cross Country Championships for senior, veteran and junior men and women.
