Tenbury RFC 10 Barton-under-Needwood 47

TENBURY captain Will Gough has challenged his side to produce the goods for the full 80 minutes.

The Palmers Meadow side put in an encouraging second half performance against Barton-under-Needwood in a Midlands Four West (North) game last Saturday.

But Tenbury were already 40-3 down by the time they upped their game, meaning that the 7-7 score during the second 40 minutes proved to be fruitless.

The result means that Tenbury still prop up the league and face a real battle to stay in the division.

"We had the worst half of rugby this season," said Gough.

"During the first 20 minutes, everything was awful.

"The huddle we had at half-time wasn't the nicest of places to be and I told the lads that they had to play for pride and the shirt.

"To be fair, they came out in the second half and did that, it was a 10 out of 10 performance.

"Our centre Greg Powell was outstanding, as well as scrum half Lawson Thomas and my brother Ed.

"Greg and Lawson are only 18, but they played really well and used their feet well.

"It shows that we've got a lot of character in the squad and we showed our capabilities.

"It was frustrating for everyone on Saturday because at 40-3 down at half time, the game was gone.

"You cannot afford to do that at any level of sport."

Tenbury's three points in the first half came from the boot of Gough, while he converted his brother Ed Gough's try after the break.

The Palmers Meadow side travel to rivals Bishops Castle this Saturday before hosting Cannock.

"Bishops Castle are going particularly well and it is a challenge that we are looking forward to," said Gough

"But we will need a complete performance out of the team."

Meanwhile,e Tenbury lost 22-14 to Bromyard in the inaugural match of the Champions Floodlit Trophy.

Sponsored by land agent Nick Champion, the tournament will be contested under Bromyard's new floodlights and also involves Clee Hill and Greyhound.

Scrum half Chris Muntz grabbed two of Bromyard's tries with Tom Morris adding the other.

Will Gough scored all of Tenbury's points.
