A YOUNGSTER outshone her older rivals to walk away with a top golf prize.

Amy Millward won the Shropshire and Herefordshire PGA Alliance at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club.

In total, 20 teams featuring a total of 80 golfers descended on the golf club to contest the tournament.

Rob Winnall played alongside club captain Jon Gaskell plus Ian Dorrell and Tom Pain.

Winnall shot 37 points to finish fourth in the popular event having competing in the individual amateur prizes while playing off a three quarter handicap of eight instead of his usual 11.

Pain continued his good form during the winter alliances to rack up 38 points on his way to finishing third.

However, they were all outdone by Cleobury Golf Club's rising star, Millward.

She only joined the golf club at the beginning of September but outclassed the rest of the field enroute to collecting 38 points, which was four over gross, to win on countback and claim her first win at Cleobury.

The young star, who has been having regular lessons with professional golfer Rob Grier, put in a fine performance to top the leaderboard in front of a packed clubhouse.

Millward, who is hoping to gain her PGA qualifications over the next three years, said: "I really enjoyed it out there today with my team.

"To come out on top with such a big field feels great and I can’t wait until the next event on December 18.

"I’ve worked hard on my game over the last few weeks so it’s great to see it coming together."

The result meant Cleobury had three players in the top five amateurs. The club has also won the last two individual events.
