DARTS ace Jim Williams secured a notable Czech out during a tournament in Prague.

The former Wigmore School pupil won the men's pair event while partnering Ryan Hoggarth before winning the mixed pair as he and partner Zoe James, from Redditch, saw off the rest of the field.

In the singles tournament, meanwhile, he reached the last eight.

"Darts is getting really big everywhere at the moment, to be honest," said Williams.

"In the Czech Republic it's buzzing. I was there a couple of years ago when it was taking off, but now it is all over Czech TV."

Williams, who is 30, has got a break now before embarking on more European tournaments at the end of JAnuary when he travels to Romania, then Holland.

After this it is back to the UK for the Scottish Open, a tournament he finished runner-up in last year.

"I've got a bit of a break now until the end of January but I'm already looking forward to those tournaments," he said.

Also this year he has reached the last 16 of the BDO World Trophy.

In August he also reached the last 32 of the Belgian Open in Antwerp, one of the biggest tournaments on the calendar which sees around 1,000 competitors take part.

Back in the summer this paper reported how Williams had been struggling for form after losing his darts in a Belfast taxi while in a rush on the way to the airport.

Williams, from Presteigne, currently has a WDF ranking of 37.

In January this year, Williams crashed out of the BDO World Championship at Lakeside at the first hurdle on his debut.

He struggled to contain his nerves at the famous sporting venue and lost 3-0 to the experienced Dave Prins,

The Welshman, who was listed 16th in the BDO rankings at the time, won his first leg at the eight time of asking and averaged 78.61 with three darts, compared to his Hartlepool rival's 86.56.
