LUDLOW Castle Motor Club's Alex Allingham and Chris Williams had a bad day at the office at the Wales Rally GB.

The pair were seeded fourth and the current Welsh champions going into the final round of the World Rally Championship.

However they ran out of fuel just before the end of the second stage in Dyfi Forest.

They did manage to push the car out, and with some assistance, made it to the next refuel stop.

But more bad luck followed when they broke a brake calliper and were late booking into the final control of the day, resulting in time penalties.

They did make a great fight-back over the next tour days, which included stages in Cloceanog and Dyfnant Forests, as well as spectator specials at Chirk Castle and Kinmel Park.

But they were unable to climb back into the fight for overall honours and finished the event 23rd overall and 13th in their class.

Phil Clarke and Andrew Siddall also competed in a MKI Ford Escort.

Seeded at 33, the pair were happy to be in the top 20 for most of the day, with their only issue being a faulty starter motor which was changed at the overnight service halt.

Similar runs on the final two days also produced no drams, leaving the crew in 19th place and first in their class.

The other Ludlow pair competing was Tom Cains and Richard May.

The duo from Ditton Priors, near Brown Clee, drove a Peugeot 309 and had a 10 second penalty for a jump start.

That meant they were lying third in their class and 26th overall, but only 20 seconds off second in the class at the overnight halt.

On the second day they decided to push for second in the class, but their engine dropped onto three cylinders, ending their hopes for this year.

Ludlow Motor Club's next meeting will be at Ludlow Brewery from 8pm on Wednesday, December 10.
