TENBURY Amateur Boxing Club's Liz Williams sustained a suspected broken nose during a debut fight in Birmingham last weekend.

Williams was performing well against Hannah Dilks from Wayne Alcock Boxing Academy when the doctor had to pull her from the match.

"The doctor stopped the fight in the third round because her nose wouldn't stop bleeding," said Tenbury Amateur Boxing Club coach Martin "Paddy" Brennan.

"Her nose is badly swollen and she could well have broken it.

"Liz is a novice and came to me fitness programme in January and after a couple of months says she wanted to learn to box.

"She is a very determined young lady and a bit of a crowd pleaser."

There was more joy for two of Brennan's other boxers performing at Mackadown Sports and Social Club.

Dan Austin, 15, beat Zack Bull from Birmingham and Irish Boxing Club by an unanimous points decision, while Sam Holroyd, 12, came through against Eamonn Williams by a split decision.

However, George Sloan lost against International Boxing Academy Club's Dan Jones.

"The kid he boxed was so strong and powerful and threw so many punches," said Brennan.
