CHURCH Stretton boss Paul Smith says the solitary goal which defeated his team sums up their run of bad luck.

His side lost 1-0 at Wellington Amateurs Reserves in the Mercian Football League Premier Division on Saturday when a looping free-kick from 35 yards found its way into the Stretton net, deep into first half stoppage time.

Smith said his team's overall performance was encouraging, but his adamant they need to sharpen up in front of goal.

"We don't seem to have any killer instinct up front," he said.

"Last season we were scoring the first goal and getting ourselves a bit of confidence.

"Now, we are conceding the first goal.

"But we didn't play that badly on Saturday and created more chances than we have done recently."

Smith was unhappy his side had given away a "sloppy" free kick which led to the goal, but is confident his players can turn things around.

"We've got Ketley Bank at home this Saturday.

"They are up and down but when they do win they do so by a lot of goals.

"We desperately need a result of some description."

In Division One, Clee Hill United went down to Wrockwardine Wood for the second time in a week.

Manager Wayne Whitbread said three mistakes were enough to cost his side a share of the spoils as they went down 3-1.

"I can't fault their effort, but we made three mistakes and they were good enough to take advantage."

Trailing by a single goal at half time, Clee Hill conceded again with about 15 minutes to go, before Olly Smith halved the deficit.

However, Wrockwardine soon restored the two-goal advantage.

This Saturday, Clee Hill travel to Bishop's Castle who last weekend lost 4-1 at home to Impact United.

Elsewhere in Division One, Brown Clee drew 1-1 at Wrockwardine Wood Juniors.
