MAKESHIFT goalkeeper James Powell was the hero as Tenbury Town beat Woofferton in a dramatic penalty shoot-out in the HFA Junior Cup.

Powell saved Tom Everall's penalty in sudden-death, leaving Mark Boucker to grab the winner and win the match 13-12.

"The penalty shoot-out was mad," said Town player Chris Patton.

"Both teams had to use their 11 players and three players then re-took their penalties.

"James Powell stood in as a goalkeeper and had a fantastic game, saving two penalties and making several saves to deny Woofferton."

Stuart Skidmore made up for his earlier miss for Town to score a second penalty, while Alex Lombardi and Mark Boucker both scoring twice.

Boucker also scored in extra-time after the game finished goalless after 90 minutes, but Woofferton equalised through Simon Bradley.

Woofferton player-secretary Dave 'Magnum' Thomas said Tenbury Town are the team's bogey side after they also knocked them out of the cup last year.

"Credit to the Town as they are battlers, but, apart from the first 10 minutes, we just didn't click and that's the way football goes sometimes," said Thomas.

Orleton Colts are through to the second round of the HFA County Challenge Cup after beating Ross Juniors 4-2.

Daniel Crowther scored twice, with Luke Herderschee and Shane Jennings also being on target.

Kristian Morgan's Orleton now face West Midlands Premier Division side Wellington in the next round.

"That will be a very hard game," said Morgan.

"We have got Hinton in the league this Saturday, so hopefully we can get three points."

Ewyas Harold Reserves gained revenge on Brimfield after beating them 4-2 in Herefordshire Football League Division One.

Brimfield thrashed them 10-4 the previous week, but Harold were too strong this week after six first-team players played for their side.

"Unfortunately Ewyas Harold's first team game was called off and we faced a different team this time," said Brimfield manager Duncan Morris.

Rob Boyd twice put Brimfield in the lead, but Harold stormed back to win the game.

Church Stretton crashed out of the Mercian League Premier Division Cup at the first hurdle following a 4-1 thrashing against Childs Ercall.

Tom Hancock gave Stretton an early lead, but Childs Ercall equalised then lead through two identical set-piece goals.

The away side then put the game to bed in the second half to leave Stretton boss Paul Smith feeling deflated.

"The poor marking for their first two goals let us down," said Smith.

"We have got Wellington Amateurs this Saturday and they have been scoring a lot of goals.

"We are struggling for players, so a few fringe players will be getting their chance.

"But that may work to our advantage."

Newcastle bowed out of the Shropshire County Challenge Cup following a 4-3 home loss against Riverside.

Carl Price levelled for John Goodridge's side after Riverside scored a penalty, before the away side took the lead.

Dave Jones equalised for Newcastle before Riverside scored two goals.

Price scored again for Newcastle, but the home side could not force a leveller.
