TENBURY Rugby Club captain Will Gough says the players "need to take a hard look at themselves in the mirror" following an embarrassing derby thrashing by Cleobury Mortimer last Saturday.

Cleobury rattled in 12 tries in an astonishing 76-3 win at Palmers Meadow to leave Gough fuming.

"It is not acceptable against anyone, never mind against one of your local rivals," said Gough.

"Everyone knows that is not good enough and the players that were available are better than a 76-3 thrashing.

"We need to do the basics better – that is the first rules of rugby.

"We will now be training twice a week to ensure we do the simple things right."

Tenbury's only points in the Midlands Four West (North) game came from the boot of Gough and they were second best to everything against a rampant Cleobury.

Tenbury coach Andy Black said he was most disappointed about the number of missed tackles that the team made.

"We also had ill-discipline which saw Pete Stevens and John Males sin-binned," said Black.

"You cannot play that level of rugby for 20 minutes with 14 players or you will get hammered.

"We have gone through a bit of discomfort for a couple of games now, but the players are not too dis-heartened and are enthusiastic.

"A s soon as the players came off, they asked to train twice a week on a Tuesday and a Wednesday.

"They are young players that needs to develop.

"But they are going to have to learn from this."

Tenbury will hope to put in a much better performance against Clee Hill in a friendly at Palmers Meadow this Saturday before facing Greyhound in the league the following weekend.
