ORLETON ace Scott Moran said he will be happy to take a back seat next season after claiming his his fifth MSA British Hillclimb Championship.

Moran secured a win and a second placed finish at Doune in Scotland last Sunday to ensure he became only the fourth driver in history to be champion five times.

But Moran is going to allow Tenbury's Alex Summers to have more of a starring role next season and enjoy more time with his family.

"My wife Debbie is expecting our second child and my son Oliver has just started at Orleton Primary School," said Moran.

"I will run the car at a few events, but I don't think I will be going for another championship, certainly not next year, because I won't be able to commit as much.

"But Alex will be fine.

"He is a good driver and I think you've got to give youngsters a chance.

"He is a bit more fearless and his reaction time is better."

Moran will not get his hands on his latest trophy until the awards ceremony in January.

"I did get a bucket of water chucked over me though after my speech," said Moran.

"We are fierce drivers on the track, but good mates off it.

"I am chuffed to bits to win another championship.

"To win five is beyond my imagination."

Moran reserved special praise for his father Roger, who retires after this weekend's finale at Loton Park.

"If it wasn't for him, I would never have achieved what I have," said Moran.

"For car preparation and set-up to guidance, he has been brilliant.

"If it wasn't for my family's support, I wouldn't be able to do what I do every week."
