ALL-ROUNDER Aaron Morris will be standing down as Tenbury Cricket Club’s first-team captain at the end of the season.

Tenbury are facing back-to-back relegations in the Worcestershire County League and Morris believes it’s time for a change at the helm.

“I am going to step down at the end of the season,” said Morris.

“I have had my three years and I think I will give someone else a chance to have a go.

“The team has had back-to-back promotions and it looks like we will be having back-to-back relegations.

“I will still be there and playing and I will be happy to assist and give advice to anyone else.

“On the field, there are people who are very experienced and will give their opinion on tactics.”

Tenbury had a losing draw at Kidderminster Victoria last Saturday in Division Three.

Morris’ men travel to Old Vigornians this Saturday before hosting local rivals Cleobury Mortimer in a derby on Bank Holiday Monday.

Morris said: “It’s going to be tough against Cleobury because they have batsmen – like Ben Griffiths – who you need to dismiss early on or they will come back to haunt you.”

In last weekend’s home match against Kidderminster, Feney (64 not out) and Annard (52) lifted Bredon to 251-9.

In reply, Tom Gloster top scored with an unbeaten 76 and Alex Mason hit 53 but basement boys Tenbury finished on 228-9.

Morris said: “We lost wickets at key times in the run-chase and, because Bredon kept picking up wickets, they set attacking fields and there were spaces in the outfield.

“Although we fell 23 runs short, it was probably not as close as that in reality, but I was very pleased with the way in which we battled hard.”

Cleobury Mortimer roared to a four-wicket victory over Avoncroft and now looked to have safeguarded their Division Three status for next term.

Ben Griffiths (3-59), Dave Shorter (2-64) and James Manley (2-72) combined to restrict Avoncroft to 251-9, with Ben Warwick hitting 63.

But Dave Shorter (66 not out), Nick Griffiths (46), Manley (41), Grant Carbines (30 not out) and Ben Griffiths (22) led Cleobury to an impressive success.

Corvedale remain second-bottom in the Shropshire County League Division Two after a five-wicket defeat against Condover in a low-scoring match.

Steve Power (15) and Sher Zahid (14) were the only Corvedale batsmen to reach double figures as they were dismissed for just 86.

Lea Burton (2-6) and Zahid (2-32) bowled but Condover reached 90-5.

Peter Lee hit 28 in Church Stretton’s 105 all out but they went down by 83 runs against Chelmarsh in Division Three. Ward had a fine match for Chelmarsh, bagging 7-26.

Mellor also snapped up 7-38 for Trysull and Seisdon who romped to a 10-wicket triumph against Ludlow 3rd in Division Four.

Dan Hillman (20) and William Wood (20) helped Ludlow 3rd to 94 but it the total was far too low to test Tryusll’s batsmen.

Ludlow 4th also had a day to forget – they crashed to a 10-wicket defeat against Shelton 2nd in 2nd XI Division Three.

Rob Johnson top scored with 22 as Ludlow were shot out for just 67 but Jackson (6-23) and Johnson (2-19) in a one-sided affair.
