BATSMAN Jonathan Pearson and all-rounder Tom Gloster have retained their places in the Woodstock South Shropshire Twenty20 League representative team.

The Tenbury Cricket Club duo will be facing the Broseley Bash League XI at Ludlow on August 7.

The pair played in the Woodstock League’s inaugural representative match – a seven-wicket hammering – of the Shrewsbury and District Evening League.

“We hammered them and it was a very enjoyable experience,” said Pearson.

“I was down to go in at number six and I wasn’t needed to bat.

“Tom Gloster bowled three overs and took a wicket.

He added: “We have both been picked for the next match, too, which is great. It sounds like the organisers want to keep a winning team.”

In last Thursday’s representative match, Ludlow duo Bryn Simmons 56 not out) and Ian Simmons (46) led the Shrewsbury and District Evening League to 146-5 off their 15 eight-ball overs. James Gerritse took 3-22 off three overs.

Sam Alford made 50, Glenn Whittaker, 24, Ryan Lockley, 17, and Dylan Grinker, 31 not out, as the Woodstock League roared to 150-3 from 11.1 overs.

Pearson said: “It’s nice to play with different people and we don’t normally have a lot of chance to play for a representative team.”

Tenbury reached the semi-finals of the domestic Woodstock competition and were scheduled to face Ludlow in a last-four tie last night (Wednesday). Clee Hill face Dales in the other tie.

Pearson’s brother, Karl Pearson, the former Herefordshire Minor Counties all-rounder, has been playing for Tenbury in the midweek league.

“Tom Gloster, Tom Pugh and me have been getting some runs in the league and Zack Yarranton has made a half-century.

“Young Jamie Farrar has been bowling well, too, and getting a few wickets.”

“My brother Karl now plays for the MCC and plays in Kent on a Saturday.

“I have asked him to play for me a few times this season and I think he’s played three matches and made a big impression”
